The Moon

Moon is associated with the mother and with feminine energy. It is fluid and is the essence of flow. It is responsive, receptive, and reflective. The moon follows the cycles and is always recycling through the past, present and future realities daily as it transits the different zodiacs through out the month. It holds our spontaneous and instinctual reactions. Moon symbolize deep insightful wisdom. It has physical knowledge of the tides, water bodies and aqua life. It has the emotional knowledge of the cycles and seasons. It has the spiritual knowledge of the unconscious realms and the mental knowledge of the conscious mind. It is constantly drawing information from these sources and reflecting this information back to us through the energy in motion (emotion). This helps us process the world around us through our unconscious mind. We have so much in-depth knowledge hidden within our dna about our environment that we don't even know how to assess or translate this information with our current mental processing system. The moon energy reflects the emotions, habits, addictions, fears, longings and obsessions that hide below the surface. Moon energy supports the private self by holding space for our triggers, motivations and anxieties.

Exercise

By definition, "exercise is a process or activity carried out for a specific purpose, especially one concerned with a specified area or skill." Exercise helps relieve stress in turn creating space for healthy interactions with ones emotions. It can help boost brain health and memory. Exercise can have rapid effects on brain function. These effects could accumulate and lead to long-term improvements in how our brains operate and its ability to recall past events. Exercise can be used to train the body and the mind. It provides an opportunity for them to work together consciously and unconsciously. Whether it be to manage or encourage weight loss, reduce risk of chronic disease, or increase energy levels, the mind and body will benefit from working together to achieve any health or wellness goal. This is great for emotional fulliment. Exercise is an activity requiring physical effort, carried out to sustain or improve health, wellness and fitness. The benefits of exercise last well after the session has ended. The act itself plants seeds within the subconscious mind and has positive affects on every action that follows. It can help with relaxation and help to energize the body and increase the energetic levels stimulating the lymph, circulation and immune system. Exercise can enhance mood and overall emotional well-being which makes us feel happier and calmer creating emotions that stabilize and ground.

Five Considerations for Exercising with Lunar Energy

  1. Increase focus by channeling emotional stress through movement and releasing it with the motion of body. When working with the body, we can trigger certain emotions; positive or negative. The body holds memories and performing certain movements can trigger certain memories and feelings. When exercising with moon energy, consider the emotional triggers as guide to reflect on current emotional state and the memories that may be activated during the workout. Be sure to take a moment to jot down anything that may have surfaced.

  2. Feel supported during workout by being your own positive maternal figure. This figure represents the nurturing aspect of self. The part that fills you up with love and positivity. Take the time to tell yourself how proud you are. Let your self know what it means to you and how much you appreciate all the effort that it puts in. Embrace where you are in journey. Always forgive yourself for not pushing through when you thought that you should have. When exercising with moon energy, create a positive mothering relationship with yourself where you feel comfortable, loved and cared for.

  3. Work within the limits to develop consistency. Don't overexert too much unnecessary energy as if you are trying to prove something. Keep the work out simple with ease and flow. Do keep it challenging enough, to where you are fully engaged and present. Exercise with moon energy to be in flow with the universe and to develop a deep rhythm within self. This rhythm can provide balance that can keep us from overworking ourselves and underperforming. It provides for the perfect harmony.

  4. Move stagnant energy by physically tapping into and working with it to release it from the body. Stagnant energy can be a trigger for an energetic shutdown response in the body. This is where we get stuck in autopilot. Where it seems, we have no control over our emotions or actions. Exercising with moon energy is opportunity to realize that we don’t have to allow our automatic emotional responses to control us. We can engage with the energy that's in motion to shift the energetic flow through the body.

  5. Use another way to express feelings. We don’t always know how to express our emotions verbally. At times, we feel better holding in our emotions especially if we lack the words or complete understanding of them. Exercise with moon energy to express emotions through swear, tears, focus, and dedication. It can help us to detach from the emotions. It gives us another outlet to express and process our feelings. After work out, you may have more clarity on emotions and your experience with them.

We can use moon energy to exercise our emotions in every moment to bring about more positive actions and reactions. By taking time to connect deeply with the rhythm of the breath and visualizing the moon in the mind's eye, we can embody the energy of the moon at any time and illuminate the dark areas of self.
